If it is acceptable to "marry" someone of the same gender, what is keeping in check the future possible recognized right to marry a sibling, a parent, a minor, or an animal? If you shudder at this concept, why do we open this Pandora's Box of future possible outcomes? Keep marriage as a religious recognation, and allow the government to recognize a civil union. Also what do you think about the verses in Romans and 1 Corinthians? Also the Constitution was written by our founding fathers who were affected by many older documents such as the Bible in building a moral society. Therefore the Bible must effect our government in order for the United States not to end up like Sodom and Gammorah. Everyone in America needs to read the story of Sodom and Gammorah because, often times history does repeat itself. I agree our society does not hold and value marriage as previous generations did in the past, but this can be linked to our society moving away from God and His laws, as God does not aprove of divorce.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14493640067103376951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4179780774501734530.post-49119072375631607132013-04-13T10:19:41.500-07:002013-04-13T10:19:41.500-07:00I agree that the punishment is reserved for God to...I agree that the punishment is reserved for God to decide, but believe in the separation of religion and state. Firstly, the Bible can be interpreted in many different ways to support any cause, just or unjust. In my beliefs and as evident in Matthew 7:1, we are not supposed to judge those that carry out actions that do not affect the welfare of others. In addition, I would like to stress the fact that a government should NOT be run based on the Bible. This is how kings took control, through "divine power," how millions have been killed throughout history unjustly, and how people are suppressed. In addition, I would like to share some verses, concerning adultery, which prove that if our government ran actions directly from the Bible, we would live in an authoritarian society:

Exodus 19:13
13 He shall surely be stoned or shot with arrows; not a hand is to be laid on him. Whether man or animal, he shall not be permitted to live.' Only when the ram's horn sounds a long blast may they go up to the mountain.

Deuteronomy 13:10
10 Stone him to death, because he tried to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

Deuteronomy 17:5
5 take the man or woman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone that person to death.

Deuteronomy 22:21
21 she shall be brought to the door of her father's house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father's house. You must purge the evil from among you.

If you can tell me that we should continue to stone people in today's society, then you can say that the government should be ran based on the Bible. However, I believe that a government should not enforce "morality." It is okay to be "morally" opposed to gay marriage and divorce; you can choose not to get one. Personally, I am morally opposed to gay marriage, and I would never even consider that lifestyle. However, I am much more opposed to the idea of an authoritarian society, in which Americans cannot even choose whom they can marry.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09663724731883749605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4179780774501734530.post-38373690930533876042013-04-13T09:22:03.437-07:002013-04-13T09:22:03.437-07:00Heres the whole text of MAtthew 7:1-5
